Downtown Calgary finally has the European-style Christmas market it’s been missing. The new Calgary Winter Market sets up on the riverside at the rebuilt Eau Claire Plaza, with more than 40 wooden retail huts, a heated Brauhaus tent, a carousel and live music, steps from the Bow River and Prince’s Island Park.
It runs Thursday to Sunday from November 19 to December 13, then every day from December 15 to Christmas Eve. Here’s what to know.

Getting There and Parking
Eau Claire Plaza is on the north edge of downtown at the Bow River. From the CTrain, it’s about a 10-minute walk north from the 7 Avenue stations; several downtown bus routes stop nearby. Parking is limited to downtown lots and parkades around Eau Claire, and they fill on weekend evenings, so transit is the easier choice.

- Skate: the Prince’s Island Park lagoon is a five-minute walk across the bridge when the ice is open.
- See a show: Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol plays the Max Bell Theatre, a 15-minute walk away.
