Christmas events can be loud, bright and crowded. Here’s what Calgary’s big events offer for guests with sensory needs or mobility needs.
ZOOLIGHTS
- Free sensory bags with headphones and a fidget at the North Gift Shop, first come, first served.
- Signs warn of flashing or moving lights and sound.
- Wheelchair rentals at the North Gift Shop.
- Quietest on weeknights early in the season. See ZOOLIGHTS.
Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market
Personal care attendants get in free, accessible parking is in Lots 7 and 8, and accessible washrooms are located throughout. Major walkways are accessible, though snow can affect outdoor areas. See the market guide.
Holiday Wonder
Holiday Wonder is entirely indoors, so there’s no ice or cold to manage.
Heritage Park
An accessible shuttle runs inside the Park, but the holiday train and private carriages aren’t wheelchair accessible.
In Search of Christmas Spirit, Banff
Not accessible for wheelchairs, walkers or other mobility devices because of uneven paths and steps.
Sensory-Friendly Santa
Several Calgary malls and community organizations offer sensory-friendly Santa sessions before regular opening hours, with lights and music turned down. Ask your mall in November; spots usually require booking.
