Calgary Christmas is a guide to the holiday season in Calgary and the surrounding region. We bring the city’s Christmas events, shows, markets, light displays and traditions together in one place, with practical, up-to-date information to help you plan.
The holidays in Calgary are full of choices, from ZOOLIGHTS and the Nutcracker to Christmas markets, Santa Claus parades and skating on Prince’s Island Park lagoon. Dates and details change every year, so we built this guide to help locals and visitors find what’s on, when it’s on and how to make the most of it.
What We Cover
We cover Calgary and nearby towns from mid-November through New Year’s Day:
- Lights and trees: Christmas light displays, neighbourhood lights and tree lighting events.
- Shows and concerts: The Nutcracker, A Christmas Carol, holiday theatre and Christmas concerts.
- Markets, shopping and food: Christmas markets, craft fairs, local gifts and festive dining.
- Family fun: Santa visits, skating, tobogganing and kid-friendly activities.
- Trip planning: itineraries, where to stay, weather and getting around.
- The whole region: every quadrant of Calgary plus Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, Chestermere, Strathmore and Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise.
How We Put Our Guides Together
We research each guide from official sources wherever possible: venue and organizer websites, official announcements and trusted local news. Each guide includes practical details like dates, hours, prices, directions, tips for avoiding crowds and what’s nearby.
Schedules often change, so we update guides as information is confirmed. When a date hasn’t been announced yet, we say so and share what happened last year as a guide. Please check the official event website before you go.
Our Promise to Readers
- Useful and honest: we recommend experiences we think you’ll enjoy, including plenty of free options.
- Independent: advertisers don’t influence our editorial content, and sponsored or paid content is always clearly labelled.
- Kept up to date: we revise our guides throughout the season.
