A night at the theatre is one of the best ways to spend a Calgary December evening indoors. Here are the holiday plays, ballets and family shows on stage in 2026.

A Christmas Carol at Theatre Calgary
Calgary’s longest-running holiday tradition on stage: Geoffrey Simon Brown’s adaptation of Dickens, November 26 to December 27, at the Max Bell Theatre. About two hours with intermission.
Alberta Ballet’s The Nutcracker
Francesco Ventriglia’s production, which premiered in 2025, returns December 11 to 24 at the Jubilee with the Calgary Phil playing live, including a Christmas Eve matinee.
A Christmas Carol Radio Play Live
Lunchbox Theatre stages Dickens as a live radio broadcast, adapted and directed by Bronwyn Steinberg, December 1 to 24 at cSPACE in Marda Loop. Short, clever and a good pick for a lunch-hour or early-evening show.
Not Announced Yet for 2026
In 2025, Rosebud Theatre and StoryBook Theatre both staged Miracle on 34th Street for the holidays. We hadn’t seen their 2026 holiday shows when we updated this page, and we’ll add them, along with Calgary’s family pantomimes, as they’re announced.
Tips
- Buy from official box offices. Resale prices for The Nutcracker run well above face value.
- Take the CTrain. The Werklund Centre is near City Hall station; the Jubilee is near SAIT/AUArts/Jubilee station.
- Matinees are easiest with young kids.
