Calgary rings in the new year with free fireworks over the Bow River, a downtown street party, skating and a long list of ticketed parties. Here’s how to spend New Year’s Eve 2026, whether you’re bringing toddlers or staying out until the last train.
The City’s Free Celebration and Fireworks
In 2025, with Olympic Plaza under construction, the City moved its official celebration to Eau Claire Plaza and Prince’s Island Park. From 8 PM there was live entertainment, interactive activities, food trucks and an outdoor skating party, and at midnight a fireworks show launched from Prince’s Island Park for about 15 minutes, synced to music on CJSW 90.9 FM. Free shuttle buses ran from 9 PM to 1:30 AM. We expect a similar plan for 2026 and will confirm it here.
Best Places to Watch the Fireworks
- Eau Claire Plaza and Prince’s Island Park: closest to the launch site.
- McHugh Bluff, Crescent Heights: the classic skyline view, but it gets packed, and in 2025 the City closed vehicle access to Crescent Heights and Rosedale.
- From home: the City livestreamed the show in 2025.
Family New Year’s Eve

Parties and Dinners
Hotel galas, 17 Avenue bars, dinner-and-dance packages and the Calgary Phil’s New Year’s concerts fill the calendar. See New Year’s Eve parties and dinners in Calgary.
Getting Home
Plan your ride before midnight: taxis and ride-shares surge after the fireworks. Watch for the City’s free shuttle routes and Calgary Transit’s late-night service announcements in December.
