Midnight fireworks don’t work for everyone under 10. Here’s how Calgary families celebrate New Year’s Eve without the meltdown.
ZOOLIGHTS on December 31
ZOOLIGHTS is open its regular 5:30 to 9:30 PM on New Year’s Eve, with free kid-friendly entertainment from the Wilder Bunch Performance Troupe and a crafting and colouring station. Count down early under a million lights.
The City’s Free Celebration
The City’s downtown celebration starts in the evening (8 PM in 2025) with family activities, food trucks and an outdoor skating party at Eau Claire Plaza and Prince’s Island Park. Go early, skate, and head home before the crowds build for midnight. See New Year’s Eve in Calgary.
Early Countdown Ideas
- Noon Year’s parties: libraries, rec centres and indoor play spaces often host midday countdowns; check your local branch and facility in December.
- Skate: outdoor rinks are free. See ice skating in Calgary.
- Lights drive: the free Lions Festival of Lights is open late.
- Airdrie: the Airdrie Festival of Lights is open New Year’s Eve.
Fireworks From Home
The City livestreamed the 2025 midnight fireworks. Record it and play it at 8 PM: most kids won’t know the difference.
